Biography

John Charles Griffin is a spoken word poet, recording artist, photographer and 1984 graduate of Valdosta State University with a B.A. in English Literature.

Griffin has published three books at Snake Nation Press, “After the Meltdown” nominated for a 2016 Georgia Author of The Year Award in Poetry, “Dirt Road Visionary” featured at the 2019 Finster Festival with Spoken Word Performance in the Paradise Gardens Chapel and more recently “Junk Yard Love Letters” nominated for the 2021 Georgia Author of The Year Award in Poetry. John is a Member of The Academy of American Poets having recently been added The Georgia Writers Registry.

Griffin is a Macon, Georgia native serving on The Board of Trustees with The Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House and Board of Directors at Pasaquan Preservation Society. He is a U.S. Navy Veteran having served with U.S. Middle East Forces in the Persian Gulf and The Mediterranean Fleet based in Sardinia, Italy. His poems have appeared in various publications including SALVATION SOUTH, JAVA MONKEY SPEAKS, SHADES AND SHADOWS, VELVET CRESCENDO, and ODRADEK.

Griffin Founded and produced Poetry at Pasaquan and Macon’s Woodward Hotel Rooftop Reading Series, performed spoken word in Atlanta's Callanwolde Arts Center, Avondale Estates Wild Heaven Brewpub, Athens Globe Venue, Poetry at Pasaquan, Sidney Lanier Cottage, Macon Arts Alliance, Society Garden and Valdosta’s Turner Arts Center. His JUNK CAR LOVE LETTERS music has recently been featured on the Jim and Buddy Show at Sirius Radio OUTLAW COUNTRY FM, CREEK 100.9 MACON and WRUU 107.5 Savannah. Photographs have appeared in Homeless Shelter Benefit Auctions, Big House Museum Foundation Fundraisers, Idle Hour Celebrity Macon Rescue Mission Benefit, Macon Magazine, Monroe County (GA) News, Gritz Magazine, and Kudzoo Online.
